چکیده
Introduction: Hyperglycemia has generally been considered as the key initiator of kidney damage associated with diabetic nephropathy. Impaired antioxidant defense mechanism with increase oxidative stress has been proposed as the root cause underlying development of insulin resistance, beta cell dysfunction and type II DM. Methods: Present study compared the oxidant and antioxidant levels in type II diabetes mellitus with nephropathy to without nephropathy. 157 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with nephropathy (DN) and 162 patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus without nephropathy (DM) along with 165 unrelated age and sex matched healthy controls were included in study. Results: An inverse relationship was observed of HbA1c with vitamin C and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in DM and DN groups. A significant inverse relationship was also observed between Vitamin C and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in all the three groups. When comparing the levels of vitamin C and SOD in all the groups we observed the lowest concentration in DN group followed by DM and control groups. Oxidative stress was found increased in DN group as compared to DM and control groups as highest concentration of MDA levels were observed in this group. Multinomial logistic regression showed none of the variable independently associated with diabetic nephropathy. Conclusion: There is an imbalance between the oxidative stress and antioxidants in diabetes mellitus with and without nephropathy as compared to healthy groups.

The Correlation Between Serum Vitamin D Level and Total Antioxidant Capacity in diabetic and Non-diabetic Subjects in Iran
Background& Objective: Increase in intra- and extracellular glucose levels can cause oxidative stress, and the prolonged imbalance between prooxidants and antioxidantscan lead to cell damage and the associated complications in patients with diabetes. Vitamin D acts as a strong antioxidant in the body and several studies emphasized on its important rol...

Objective(s):Hyperglycemia mediated oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications like nephropathy. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of ethanolic extract of Ensete superbum seeds (ESSE) on renal dysfunction and oxidative stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods:Glucose, HbA1c, total protein, albumin, renal function mar...

Objective: In patients with diabetes mellitus, increased rate of lipoprotein oxidation and oxidative stress have important role in diabetic angiopathy, including nephropathy. We designed a study for comparing the level of Ox-LDL in diabetic patients with Macro-albuminuria, Micro-albuminuria, versus Normo-albuminuric. Materials and Methods: One hundred and thirty five patients with type 2 dia...
متن کاملAssociations between Vitamin B-12 Status and Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Diabetic Vegetarians and Omnivores.
Diabetes is considered an oxidative stress and a chronic inflammatory disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlations between vitamin B-12 status and oxidative stress and inflammation in diabetic vegetarians and omnivores. We enrolled 154 patients with type 2 diabetes (54 vegetarians and 100 omnivores). Levels of fasting glucose, glycohemoglobin (HbA1c), lipid profiles, o...
متن کاملOxidative stress in diabetic patients with retinopathy.
BACKGROUND Diabetes mellitus (DM) is known to induce oxidative stress along with deranging various metabolisms; one of the late complications of diabetes mellitus is diabetic retinopathy, which is a leading cause of acquired blindness. Poor glycemic control and oxidative stress have been attributed to the development of complications like diabetic retinopathy. The aim of this study was to analy...
